Fear #1: Cosmetic Dentistry Costs Too Much
It’s not a surprise that this is a common fear. We’re used to a world where cosmetic dentistry was only available to the rich and famous, but that’s changed. New technologies and techniques allow us to offer cosmetic dentistry to virtually anyone. There are three ways that we can help you fit cosmetic dentistry in your budget.
Alternative Procedures: For most cosmetic changes you want, we offer more than one procedure that will achieve the results you desire. If porcelain veneers are out of reach, dental bonding and teeth whitening might be the right choice for you. We even have alternatives in orthodontics. You might not be able to afford Invisalign, but Six Month Smiles can be significantly less expensive.
We will talk to you about your options so that we can find the right compromise of quality and cost.
Staged Procedures:Your procedures don’t always have to be done all at once. If you are looking to get many porcelain veneers placed, we can start by doing just a few at a time, staggering them out so that you can fit them in your budget. If you don’t have a specific timeline, we can space your procedures out as much as you need to make them affordable.
Financing: And, of course, there are also financing options available. You may not be able to pay for the entire procedure at once, but with no interest financing you can spread out the cost over two years, and potentially more with a reasonable interest rate.
Don’t let cost keep you from enjoying the benefits of a beautiful smile.
Fear #2: Cosmetic Dentistry Looks Fake
You might think this because you know (or knew) someone with an obviously fake smile. However, the odds are good that you know many more people who have had cosmetic work done on their smile that you’ve never noticed.
In the past, there was a tendency to try to make every smile look absolutely perfect, which could certainly look off. Modern cosmetic dentistry gives you the option of choosing a perfect smile, or one that’s subtler, retaining the personality of your natural smile while dramatically improving its appearance.
And modern materials are much more natural in their appearance than those that were used in the past. We have the ability to craft artificial teeth that are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. We invite you to look at our gallery of beautiful smiles and see what we mean. These smiles don’t look fake–they look gorgeous. And natural.
Fear #3: Cosmetic Dentistry Doesn’t Last
Just like you might have known someone who had fake looking cosmetic dentistry, you might have known someone who got cosmetic dentistry, only to have restorations chip and break. This was more of a peril in the past than today.
In the past decade or so, the strength of materials used for porcelain veneers and other ceramic restorations has increased by tenfold or more! Modern dental materials are up to 100 times stronger than your natural tooth enamel, so it’s no surprise that studies show 19 out of 20 veneers are still in place after 10 years, and 5 out of 6 are still in place after 20 years. Modern cosmetic dentistry is built to last.
Fear #4: I Won’t Find a Cosmetic Dentist I Can Trust
Of course, you have to be careful when choosing a cosmetic dentist. Essentially, any dentist can call themselves a “cosmetic dentist,” but that doesn’t mean they have the training and experience to provide expert cosmetic dentistry. But if you take time to consider your options, you will find a great cosmetic dentistry who can give you the smile you desire.
First, start by visiting dentists’ websites. Look at their smile galleries and evaluate the quality of their results. Then visit the dentists’ biography pages and check to make sure that the dentist has training in providing cosmetic dentistry procedures. Read reviews from previous patients. Don’t be swayed by just one negative or positive review–take in the overall tone of the reviews. And don’t just go by stars–read the reviews to get an idea about whether this is really the right cosmetic dentist for you.
Then schedule appointments with a few cosmetic dentists. Talk to them about your cosmetic goals and bring up any fears you may have. See how they address your concerns and solve them. Then select the dentist you’re happiest with.
Fear #5: I’m Just Afraid of the Dentist!
To some extent, it’s normal to fear the dentist, and it’s very common. About three quarters of all dental patients have some degree of dental anxiety, though for most of us it’s not so strong that it keeps us from making our appointments.
But if your fear of the dentist stops you from making dental checkups or getting cosmetic dentistry, we can help. NuCalm is a drug-free approach to relaxation dentistry that can help you relax and enjoy a dental visit as you never thought possible.
